Frequently Asked Questions
The program is open to high school-aged singers entering grades 9-12 for the
2026-2027 academic year, including public school, private school, and
homeschool students.
Not at all. While prior musical experience is helpful, students do not need formal
classical training to apply. Practice resources such as recordings and part tracks
are provided throughout the semester to assist with music learning and
preparation. We are looking for singers with musical potential, curiosity,
commitment, and a desire to grow.
We are looking for students who are enthusiastic about music-making, eager to
learn, and interested in being positive leaders within a welcoming and
collaborative ensemble environment.
Strong musicianship is important, but so are reliability, curiosity, kindness,
professionalism, and a willingness to participate fully in the life of the
organization.
Choral Scholars sing as members of the Easton Choral Arts Society ensemble
and also participate in a featured small ensemble each semester as part of their
leadership and artistic development experience.
Most rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings at St. Mark’s United Methodist
Church in Easton, Maryland. Regular rehearsals generally take place between
7:00-9:00pm, though exact schedules may vary throughout the season.
Additional small ensemble rehearsals typically take place during the regular
rehearsal schedule, and one choir retreat (an extended rehearsal from
10:00am-2:30pm) is typically scheduled on one Saturday morning each
semester.
Consistent attendance and preparation are important parts of the program.
However, we understand that students often balance academics, extracurricular
activities, athletics, theater, family commitments, and other responsibilities.
Communication and reliability are key.
Selected students receive a $1,000 annual stipend, awarded in two installments:
• $500 following the holiday concert cycle
• $500 following the spring concert cycle
Scholars additionally receive mentorship, leadership opportunities, artistic
development experiences, and participation in featured ensemble opportunities
throughout the season.
Choral Scholars serve as student ambassadors for ECAS and take active roles in
the artistic and organizational life of the ensemble. Responsibilities may include
assisting with section communication and attendance, participating in social
media and communications efforts, supporting community engagement
initiatives, participating in featured small ensembles, and observing select board
meetings and organizational discussions.
Not at all. While the program may be especially valuable for students considering
future studies in music or the arts, it is also intended for students who simply love
singing and want to grow within a supportive, high-level artistic community.
No. Easton Choral Arts welcomes singers of many ages, backgrounds, and
experience levels. The Choral Scholars Program simply provides an additional
leadership and mentorship opportunity for students seeking deeper involvement
within the organization.
