Christopher Gage

Organist

Bio

Christopher Gage has earned praise for his style of organ playing, especially his convincing interpretations of the music of the North German Baroque, at home and abroad. He received his doctorates in organ performance and music theory from the University of Kansas; among his past teachers are Michael Bauer, David Higgs, and David Herman. Since 2017, he has served as Director of Music at Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia.

Chris also teaches music theory at the University of Delaware, where he also maintains an organ studio, directs the Collegium Musicum early music ensemble, accompanies soloists and choirs, and serves as faculty advisor for the Xi Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. His theoretical research focuses on the theme songs and incidental music of twentieth-century game shows, and his monograph, Unity, Ambiguity, and Flexibility in Theme Music for Game Shows: A Winning Combination, was published earlier this year by Palgrave Macmillan.

When he is not teaching or researching, Chris enjoys cooking, baking, annoying his cat, watching old sitcoms, and having strong opinions about The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour.
