Denique Isaac
Soprano Soloist
Bio
Denique Isaac, Soprano, is currently based in her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland where she studies under the tutelage of Mrs. Elizabeth Daniels. Graduating from the Jacobs School of Music with a Masters in Voice Performance, Denique has had the pleasure to sing in numerous vocal ensembles throughout the United States, Western Europe, South Africa and Australia.

During her time at IU Opera Theater, she performed in Puccini’s double bill, Suor Angelica as La sorella infermiera and Gianni Schicchi as La Ciesca. Although 2020 was a tumultuous time for musicians, Denique remained steadfast with her music and performed the role of Anna Maurrant from Kurt Weill’s opera, Street Scene with Young Artist of America (YAA). Ms. Isaac also had the privilege of working with Baltimore Concert Opera, now Opera Baltimore, covering the role of Mrs. Gobineau in The Medium.

In 2021, Ms. Isaac received an Inaugural Voice Fellowship with YAA and a Vocal Fellowship with The Thirteen Vocal Ensemble. 2021 also marked her debut with Annapolis Opera in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, as Rapunzel. During this time she also had the pleasure to compete in the George Shirley Vocal Competition in Ann Arbor, Michigan, placing third in the pre-professional division.

In 2022, she was awarded the Laury Christy Encouragement Award from the South Carolina District of The Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition. Ms. Isaac took part in Des Moines Metro Opera’s Apprentice Artist Program, preparing and study covering the role of Bess, in Gershwin’s American classic, Porgy and Bess. Months later, she had her chorus debut in the Washington National Opera (WNO), singing in the Verdi opera, Il trovatore. Following the thrill of the Kennedy Center magic, Denique returned to Opera Baltimore performing the role of Mrs. Jessel, from Britten’s Turn of the Screw. Her tener with Opera Baltimore would extend, joining their Education team as a Teaching Artist, sharing the presentations, “What is Opera? A Team!” & “Voice Your Story” across various grades and ages within the community. With a joy for inspiring children with the opera genre, this opportunity would lead Denique to pursue more involvement in opera outreach and youth programs fueling the same artistic passion she had at a young age.
Starting 2023 with a win, Ms. Isaac received the Bernard Kahn Encouragement Award from the South Carolina District of The Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition. She won first place in both the NATS National Student Auditions Upper Advanced Classical Treble Voices category and the American Negro Spiritual All-Voices category. Mid year, she found her way back to the stage performing with Annapolis Opera again in Mozart’s classic Le nozze di Figaro, as a chorus member and as a Bridesmaid. She premiered in Noah Getz’s opera, Dear Mr. Duncan, with the World Music Collective, performing the role(s) of “female lead”- mother, student and wife of renowned opera singer whom the play was based upon, Todd Duncan. Denique closed the year with her debut as Countess Ceprano in Opera Delaware’s production of Rigoletto.

Most recently, Ms. Isaac performed with Annapolis Opera, in the Donizetti opera, The Elixir of Love, singing the role of Giannetta. Soon after, Denique had the pleasure of joining WNO’s production of Turandot as a member of the chorus. She returned to Annapolis Opera with library outreach concerts, singing a variety of opera, spirituals and musical theater for audiences across her community. She has just finished Verdi’s Macbeth with WNO, and will start next year with Cedar Rapids Opera as a spirit, in Massenet’s opera, Cendrillon. Denique will return to WNO chorus with Porgy and Bess in Spring of 2025.
